The Lithuanian language and culture online summer course is underway on 5 to 30 July. 42 students have joined the course from 19 countries, Belarus, Great Britain, Egypt, Estonia, India, Italy, USA, Canada, China, Latvia, Poland, France, Russia, Georgia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Hungary, Vietnam, and Germany. Students are mainly from Latvia, Poland, and Russia.
3 students are taking part in the two-week course (5 to 16 July) while 39 students in the four-week course (5 to 30 July). 26 students have joined the course under the project ‘Lithuanian Academic Scheme for International Cooperation in Baltic Studies.’ The Education Exchanges Support Foundation is funding tuition for 5 students.
Divided up into five groups with regard to their proficiency level, course participants study Lithuanian for four academic hours daily.
There is a cultural programme available so students have lectures on Vilnius University, Lithuanian history, Lithuanian language, ancient culture (old musical instruments, national costumes, and traditions), routine life culture, social and political life, architecture of Vilnius, traditions of beekeeping in Lithuania. They also take part in the event run by the MO Museum, get to know the art of paper cutting and learn how to make cold borscht soup.
