RESEARCH AND OTHER ACTIVITIES
PhD dissertation
- Born in Vilnius in 1963. Graduated from Vilnius Pedagogical University in 1985 and until 1990 taugh English in a secondary school, since then served as a head of international news department in a daily paper, worked on a staff of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union and was a contributor to various journals, weeklies and daily papers. Attended Stuttgart Seminar in Cultural Studies (supervisor prof. dr. Wolfgang Iser) in 1993. Lectured at Vilnius University from 1993-1996 and was invited to join the faculty of the School of Architecture, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in 1995 where he held appointments as assistant, associate professor, becoming a full professor in 2010 after completing his Ph.D. thesis in art history and theory.
- He was a visiting scholar and visiting professor at the Illinois University at Chicago, Kyungpook National University (South Korea), Helsinki University (Finland), Florence University, Venice IUAV University (Italy), University of the Basque Country at San Sebastian and Seville University (Spain) and was an invited speaker of some 60 international conferences and congresses. After serving two terms as the president of Lithuanian PEN he now continues as its vice-president.
- He also serves as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Architecture and Urbanism, (Routledge) and as associate editor of Lithuania’s leading cultural monthly Kultūros barai.
