Pre-Christian Finnic Personal Names in the Baltic Sea Area
The presentation gives an overview of pre-Christian Finnic (~ Balto-Finnic) personal names. The aim is to present what kind of personal names were used among Finnic peoples at the beginning of the second millennium. First part concentrates on earlier research and describes how pre-Christian Finnic personal names were composed structurally and semantically. In addition, the history of Finnic peoples is briefly described. Second part presents where pre-Christian Finnic personal names had geographically spread before the end of Middle Ages (~1520). In addition, the development and spread of Finnic pre-Christian personal name system is discussed in the light of archaeological and historical data.
