Trumpas dalyko aprašas: The module covers the rise and development of the aesthetics of the crisis of representation in the literature of British and Anglo-Irish High Modernism. It introduces students to the general notion of representation, specifies what representational structures mediate literary discourse, and examines ways in which Modernist literature complicates this mediation, thereby both intensifying our aesthetic experience and expanding the range of representational structures that constitute a literary work. From this perspective, the module examines symbolic representation, narrative, subjectivity, fragmentation, and intertextuality in the works of W. B. Yeats, T. S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, James Joyce, and Samuel Beckett. Lectures and practical seminars in this module aim to raise students’ theoretical-methodological awareness, provide them with conceptual frameworks for practical interpretative analysis, enhance their skills of practical engagement with literature, and expand their knowledge of the history of literature and culture in which it functions.
